St. Louis City Birth Records (Index Card Files)
This database is an index of card files that were processed by an StLGS volunteer many years ago; the information was taken from microfilm of index cards of births prior to 1910 kept by the City of St. Louis. The microfilm quality was poor and in some cases the information on the cards was too difficult to interpret. Because of this, some names and dates may be missing. In addition, the index is incomplete due to the death of the indexer.
The index cards can contain, but not always, the name of the child, birth date, father’s name, mother’s given name, maiden name, and certificate number. A child of color is indicated with an asterisk by the surname or may have the written abbreviation “col.”
Even though this file is incomplete, we are posting this index with the hopes that it will benefit someone in their genealogical research. The St. Louis County Library Clark Family Branch, Emerson History and Genealogy Center, has a microfilm of St. Louis City Birth Records. These records will give additional information such as place of birth for father, mother, and child, and the informant’s name.
