St. Louis Legion – Mexican War Veterans
In 1832, a group of men formed the “St. Louis Grays,” to serve in the Black Hawk War, and soon became the oldest military company in the city. In spite of the fact that they were not called into service, they maintained their organization. In 1846, the group was called into service for the Mexican War.

A complete list of St. Louis troops raised and mustered on 18 May 1846 for the Mexican War was published in the Republican newspaper on 15 August 1880.
Dennis Northcott submitted the Roster of St. Louis Troops for Mexican War, which was transcribed by Audrey Flavin for publication in the 1999 St. Louis Genealogical Society Quarterly, volume 32, number 3, pages 107–110; number 4, pages 137–143.
