Many years ago, a committee of StLGS volunteers published a book of previously unpublished marriages from what was then the Church of St. Louis, King of France (now a basilica, commonly known as the Old Cathedral), the church of Sts. Mary and Joseph in Carondelet, and St. Ferdinand de Florissant. The book was revised for a third printing in 1996, and it is from this revision that the following information has been taken.

The book is divided into five sections. The first contains combined records from the Old Cathedral and Sts. Mary and Joseph, and the second section is a brides’ index for those parishes. The third section is an explanation of “dit” names, which appear often in these records. The fourth section is the marriages of St. Ferdinand, followed by a brides’ index for that church. During the past few years, a new cadre of StLGS volunteers has re-indexed the book, correcting as many errors as possible. Many of the original records were in French, so translation mistakes are possible. We encourage you to look at the actual book, which has been digitized and is on this website and linked below. We also encourage you to locate the original records, copies of which are available on microfilm in the Emerson History and Genealogy Center at St. Louis County Library Clark Family Branch and at the FamilySearch Library.
