Hugo Bartholomew Eyermann, 1892–1964, and Florence Pauline Ebert, 1893–1970

Hugo was born on 20 February 1892 at 1865 Limit Street in the city of St. Louis to Wilhelm Eyermann and Wilhelmina/Minnie Hampe. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Frieden Church with Hugo and Bertha Hampe as sponsors. In his early years, Hugo lived with his parents on Limit, Dolman, S. 13th, and S. 18th Streets.

Florence Pauline Ebert was born 7 January 1893 at 828 Julie Street in the city of St. Louis to Martin Georg Ebert and Ida Adelaide Rapp. She was baptized at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor C. J. Otto Hanser with Paulina Walther and Leonhardt Bout as sponsors. This church is known as the Historic Trinity Lutheran today, still located at 812 Soulard. By age seventeen, Florence was working at Bemis Bag and boarding at 5329 Odell Avenue.

Pastor George Wales King of Markham Memorial Presbyterian Church married Hugo and Florence on 3 September 1913. The witnesses were Katie Ziegler and Walter Cain.

Hugo and Florence were the parents of three children. Roland Hugo was born 26 January 1916 at 2010 S. 18th Street and baptized 5 March 1916 at Markham Memorial Presbyterian Church with Roland Edward and Clara Eyermann as sponsors. Roland died 17 August 1998, with burial at St. Paul’s Churchyard in Affton. Virginia Adelaide was born 14 August 1917 at 2825 Wyoming Street and was baptized 23 September 1917 at Markham Memorial Presbyterian Church. Virginia married Fred Miller on 20 July 1935 by Justice of the Peace Otto F. Horn of Waterloo, Illinois. Virginia died in Central, Arizona, on 29 June 2008 with burial in Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale, Arizona. Ellen Charlotte was born on 22 November 1919 while the family was living at 5716 Maffitt Avenue. Pastor King married Ellen and Kenneth Arthur Horn on 22 June 1940. They were divorced about 1965. In 1969, Ellen married Anthony “Tony” Jacob Tieber. Ellen died at home in St. Louis County on 9 March 2005. She is buried in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with Tony.

Hugo owned and operated Eyermann & Company, a concrete and fencing business from about 1950 to about 1962 with Florence handling all the accounting. Prior to that, he worked as a coremaker in a foundry and a delivery man.

Throughout their married life, Hugo and Florence lived on numerous streets including S. 12th, Wyoming, Maffitt, Lynch, Louise, Missouri, and Minnesota Avenues. In her last years, Florence lived on Virginia Avenue.

Hugo died at home, 3328 Minnesota, on 8 February 1964. Florence died at St. Louis University Hospital on 17 August 1970. Lake Charles Cemetery is the final resting place for both Hugo and Florence. They leave a legacy of three children and eight living grandchildren.
