Harvey Livingston Christie, 1860–1928

Harvey Livingston Christie was born 9 February 1860, in Suffolk, Virginia, son of Daniel Harvey Christie, a Confederate Civil War colonel, who was mortally wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg and died on 17 July 1868 in Virginia.

Harvey Christie grew up in Virginia in the care of his mother, Elizabeth Norfleet Christie, and graduated from William and Mary College in 1878. For two years, he was a teacher in Virginia, while he studied for the bar at the University of Virginia. His reading was also directed by the Hon. Alexander Martin of the Missouri Supreme Court Commission, while serving for three years as the principal of the Ingleside Academy in St Louis County.

Harvey was admitted to practice law on 27 October 1883 and opened an office in St. Louis, later entering into partnership with P. Taylor Bryan. Harvey was married on 21 October 1885 in St. Louis, to Adaline Kaplains Lackland, born on 9 July 1860, daughter of James Ranson Lackland and Mary D. Southern. They lived at 5544 Cabanne Ave. Adaline died on 8 September 1913 in St. Louis and is buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Harvey died near his parental home on 15 May 1928 in Hertford County, North Carolina, and is buried in Suffolk County, Virginia.

Harvey Livingston Christie and Adaline Kaplains Lackland had one child, James Lackland Christie, born on 3 March 1891 in St. Louis. He became an investment manager with A.G. Edwards & Sons. James married Jean B. Christie in St. Louis and after 1940, they moved to Brookline, Massachusetts, where he died on 9 August 1958.
