History

Established in 1900; still active in 2017

In 1900 a group of German farmers established the Evangelical Lutheran Trinity Congregation. The congregation built a small white frame church that seated 150 and laid out a cemetery. They followed the German custom of seating men on one side and women on the other side during worship services. In the early 1950s, members were divided over the adoption of the common confession of doctrine by the American Lutheran Church.

A splinter group left the congregation and organized as the Trinity Lutheran Church of Ballwin in 1955. This congregation built a new church at 900 Kehrs Mill Road in 1956. The remaining church members stayed at the Clayton Road site as the Trinity Lutheran Church, Chesterfield.

The church provided a parochial school, but closed it in 1946 due to the declining number of students. By 1955, the congregation started growing again and soon had outgrown their church. They purchased land next to the old church and built a new church, parsonage, and school. The church reopened the school in 1956. Today, the church only provides a preschool for younger children. They kept the bell and baptismal font from the old church, which they demolished in 1965.

The church left the Missouri Synod in 1980 and became affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. They completed a major expansion in 1998.
