Rock Hill is located about seven miles from downtown St. Louis. It straddles Manchester Road in mid-St. Louis County. The earliest landowners were French who received land grants. Additional landowners arrived after the disastrous New Madrid earthquakes in 1811 and 1812.

The following list of landowners was taken from an atlas published by Julius Hutawa in 1847 and dates from the previous year. The size of their acreage varied, from as little to seven acres and to more than 270.

This list was originally published in 1978, St. Louis Genealogical Society Quarterly, volume 11, number 4, page 124. Note that the original Quarterly article mistakenly attributes the list to Dupre’s Atlas, but that was published almost a decade earlier than Hutawa’s.
